The Internet and Music

The way we listen to music today has greatly changed since the Internet has opened many doors into the music world. It used to be that you had to go out and by the new CD that you heard about from a friend or try to record it off the radio with a cassette tape. Today all you have to do is go online and download the new top song. This makes it convenient for the person downloading the song rather than having to go out and buy the whole Cd just for one song. The Internet has made this possible, but not all songs are paid for. This hurts CD sales and allows for people to illegally down load music causing a loss in music sales in general. Since there has been a ban on illegal downloading of music this has helped the music industry greatly in the loss of CD sales. The Internet has also allowed unheard of bands to be heard. This is great for for people trying to make it in the music industry. So not all things are bad when it comes to the Internet and music but some people try to take advantage of the situation. The Piracy Act is cracking down on those certain individuals so they don't ruin it for the rest of us.

  1. yep, it's a complicated issue...hopefully people will eventually become morally responsible and everyone can benefit. there are plenty of free listen sites, so how about you cough up a buck for a single? that's what they cost 50 years ago!
