What Happend to Going Outside?
When I was a kid growing up we didn't have the Internet. If we were bored we went outside to play, not go play games on the Internet. To me it seems that kids now and days spend more time on the computer than going outside and getting exercise. When I was ten I was outside all the time and had fun being outside. Now if you want your kid to go outside you have to pull them away from the computer and then listen to them complain because they didn't finish the level on their game. Kids are becoming less prone to going outside and playing because parents do not restrict their online usage. No one made me go outside as a kid, I wanted to go. I hated being in the house all the time. We didn't have the video games and chat rooms on the Internet like kids have today. We had to physically go outside and go to a friends houses. I believe that this is a problem and parents should make their children go outside and get exercise. If kids do not get the exercise they need then they are prone to becoming overweight. It is sad to me seeing 4 year old on the Internet when they should be out side playing. No I do not believe that the Internet is evil and that kids shouldn't use it. I'm just saying that kids need to be more physically active and should be restricted to the use of it.

Wow. some really great points, and an unusual perspective from so young an author. Possibly the whole world is changing, and obviously business is completely changing - we have almost completely evolved to a nation of thinkers, idea givers, from the last century, where Americans were the makers of things. Now, we're the designers. I agree that people, not just kids, should get out and move around and experience real life every single day - but without complete immersion in the internet, kids will be left behind culturally and economically speaking.
ReplyDeleteAbout shopping, tho, this really hits home for me. I grew up in L.A, where lots of stuff comes in and is still made - but I love clothes from Europe, and without spending an absolute fortune, they're just not available here in RVA. I can't be expected to buy crap from China just because my local shopping is Target. The internet market is all a good thing - check out all the private designers who can reach a billion buyers!!
